About FDI
Involvement
FDI is involved in the A.R.T. of sustainable peace building:
- Advocacy: presentations, training sessions, networking with other organizations, participation in relevant conferences, platforms, forums, publications;
- Research & evaluation: research on sustainable peace building, research on the role of field diplomacy in sustainable peace building, development of a workable conflict impact assessment (CIAS) model, conflict impact assessments are effectively carried out for both NGOs and governmental organizations;
- Training: conflict impact assessment, project design, field diplomacy, conflict awareness, mediation, leadership and election monitoring.
Members
Jos De la haye, Ph.D. K.U.Leuven 2001. Most of his research and field work focuses on conflict related issues, i.e. impact assessment, early warning, conflict analysis. He has worked as a researcher at the University of Leuven, also as PCIA project coordinator for FDI and International Alert (cf. Resource Pack) and did some consultancy work on conflict related issues for UNDP, OSCE, Care International, Catholic Relief Services, International Foundation for Election Systems, etc. His field experience is related to the Balkan (Bosnia and Kosovo in particular), Africa (Kenya and Uganda), Asia (Sri Lanka) and the Caucasus (Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan).
Robert M.E.W. Olbrechts-Suetens , in short Bob . Mr. Olbrechts is currently working as a legal counsellor on language minority rights for the Belgian federal government. He is also a graduate student in the Conflict Transformation Program at the Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States.
Philippe Poelmans, is the Tresurar of FDI. He holds a master in Business Administration and in currently doing an MA in Business at the ULB. During his studies he showed some particular interest in conflict related issues.
Luc Reychler , Ph.D. Harvard 1976, is professor Peace Research and Conflict Resolution at the University of Leuven. Most of his academic and field work focuses on conflict prevention and sustainable peace building. Special attention is being paid to the role of field diplomacy in peace building, Conflict Impact Assessment (CIAS), sustainable peace building and peace architecture. He believes that sustainable development is unthinkable if no serious efforts are made to build a sustainable peace environment.
